Jewish Music Research at the Hebrew University: Past and Future

This webinar will explain why knowledge about Jewish music is important for the survival of Jewish identity and for a post-national global vision of Jewishness. Edwin will illustrate his vision in the webinar with snippets of his flagship projects, i.e. German-Jewish religious music, The Beregovsky collection as well as the legacy of music of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, and finally Jews’ and Arabs’ music.

Prof. Edwin Seroussi and his team are looking for contributions for the establishment of a solid fund, which allows the hiring of young reseachers who will continue his lifelong work. The aim of this fund is to create a part time permanent position of a senior researcher who will continue guiding the research projects and the editing of publications.

Heidy Zimmermann has been a member of the research staff and curator at the Paul Sacher Foundation since 2002. She studied musicology, German language and literature, as well as Jewish studies (PhD on Tora und Shira, 2000). She has published numerous articles and co-edited books on aspects of Jewish music and twentieth-century music.
